New Ing Lodge

Situated between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales with an easy access to adventures

Plan your stay

Shap is on the cusp of both the Lake District and the Yorkshire dales so we have access to a wide range of the some of the most beautiful scenery.

We have gathered here some ideas on how to spend your days while saying with us and we hope you can find something that suits you.

If you are still looking for something else fun to do, we would be happy to recommend when you book or just ask suggestions from a member of staff on site.

Walks / runs from the door

Here are some of our favourite local walks or runs that start just outside our front door. These vary in terms of their distance from a couple of miles to full days out in landscapes surrounding Shap.

Walks / runs from a short drive away

These routes start from a short drive away from New Ing Lodge but can still be considered very much local and are some that we often do ourselves. These walks or runs vary in terms of distance as well as the terrain, taking you to family-friendly riverside strolls as well as to the top of fells.

Family Fun

Here you can find some of our suggestions on how to plan a day out for the whole family in the local area.

There is excellent cycling on quiet country roads all around us, so you can find more suggestions and information about bike hire.

Swimming and Water based fun

You can’t come to the Lake District and not enjoy some water activities. Here you find our suggestions for some wild swimming spots as well as suggestions for hiring paddle boards and boats.

Places to Eat

Here are some of the places to eat either in Shap or nearby. There are options for pubs, cafés and even a Michelin star restaurant. We would highly recommend booking ahead for a table, especially during the summer months when the Lake District is busy.

about us!
Stayed for 3 nights as a family with a German shephard in a family room, spotless, large and comfortable to say the least. The staff can't help enough and the food is perfect! Log burner in the common room hits the spot every night. 100% recommend this place, amazing!

This is a great place to stay, warm, friendly an inviting! We have stayed here for both bed and breakfast and earlier this year, we took the family up for a self catering weekend! Cannot recommend enough!
