Shap open air heated swimming pool

Did you know that Shap has England’s highest open air swimming pool? It’s a community led outdoor pool that is open usually from May to September and you can find the opening times on their website here http://www.shapswimmingpool.co.uk/

Swindale Waterfalls

This is definitely our favourite place for a dip, the waterfall is located at the far end of the valley Swindale and about a 40-minute hike from the car park by following blue arrows to the waterfalls. There are several pools and you can discover them by following the falls up the beck.

River Lowther at Whale

River Lowether offers great spots for swimming. Our favourite is a small walk from the village of Askham along the river towards Whale, just before reaching the road. It offers a lush pool in the river and a perfect spot for a picnic.

Small Water above Haweswater

There’s nothing better than dipping into a tarn surrounded by hills and Small Water above Haweswater reservoir is definitely a perfect spot for a cold dip. It’s about a 30-minute walk from Mardale car park up the hills towards Nan Bield pass.

Ullswater

Ullswater is the nearest of the bigger lakes to us and Pooley Bridge is about 20-minute drive from our door. It’s perfect for a swim or a day spent hopping on and off Ullswater Steamers or even renting your own boat or paddle boards.
